I’ve been missing for a while but I finally have a job. Have had since October last year. It’s in aged care – community care. So, I have to be careful what I do write about.
I love:
The way they know my hand is there to steady them,
The smile on their face when I walk through the door
The stories they share and trust to me
The job is challenging but Oh! So rewarding when I see the difference I make. I’m just one person but I might be the only person a resident sees all day. The smile that lightens their face and the hand that grabs mine make it all worthwhile.
I guess it’s easier when you remember that each one is a father or mother, grandfather or grandmother, brother or sister. All with their own stories. And all deserve to be treated with respect. And heard.
In the end it will be me. Or you.
